Day 1: Augsburg - Nördlingen¶
A standout along the way is Harburg, home to one of Germany’s oldest and best-preserved castles, dramatically perched above the Wörnitz River. With its fully intact city wall and historic old town, Nördlingen is the perfect place for an overnight stay, inviting you to explore its fascinating history and relaxed atmosphere.
You can skip the detour to the Donaumeile in Donauwörth, if you don't need to buy something.

Food and accommodation¶
Food options along the route are sparse and mostly closed (for good?). Try to fill your belly in the larger cities. Family-run Wie bei Oma1 offers good german-croatian food in the center of Donauwörth. The Brückencafè2 in Harburg is a good option for coffee and cake with a view. Blaue Glocke3 in Nördlingen provides a cozy vibe together with delicious Swabian food for reasonable prices - Recommendation!
Hey Lou Hotel Nördlingen4 offers modern rooms and good value for the price. Bicycle storage: In a covered and locked "bicycle cage".
Day 2: Nördlingen - Dinkelsbühl¶
Leaving Nördlingen through the Baldinger Tor, the route continues through villages and the countryside to Dinkelsbühl.
Getting away from Dinkelsbühl
Dinkelsbühl has a train station, but it is not serviced (except for an occasional historical train).
One option would be to extend the route to Dombühl (27 km | 127 hm | +36 hm), where regular trains to Nürnberg are leaving. Via Ansbach also to Würzburg and Augsburg. This route provides the opportunity to see Feuchtwangen.
For those Stuttgart-bound, Crailsheim (27 km | 155 hm | -31 hm) is an option.
The route planned is extended to Wassertrüdingen from where Augsburg can be reached (via Gunzenhausen).
Don't forget to check the schedule for the option of your choice!

Food¶
Mayer's Beck Bäckerei5 offers good coffee and breakfast menus. The restaurant Zur Glocke6 serves tasty German and Franconian classics at the central square of Dinkelsbühl. If you have some time until the next train in Wassertrüdingen, you can have a Spalter beer at the Spalter Bierstube7. In case you miss your connecting train in Gunzenhausen, the Lighthouse Restaurant8 near the station offers good food and service.
