The "Golden City" became one of the most important cities under Charles IV. Today it is one of the most beautiful European cities.

Sights

There are plenty of sights as well as guide books, blogs and websites describing them.

One off the beaten path it the Great Strahov Stadium, which used to enclose nine football fields - eight of them still exist today.

Food and accommodation

Even though there are plenty of eating places in the city, there are many tourist traps (multi-language menus are a bad sign). You can head out to the neighborhood of Žižkov which is less-touristy.

A good restaurant in the city is Restaurace Pod Petřínem1. In the neighborhood of Žižkov you will find U Sadu2 which serves good food and its own beer.

The Exe City Park3 hotel is conveniently located across the street from the main station, offers nice rooms and good breakfast. Bicycle storage: In an empty (locked) conference room.

Café Imperial4 offers high class food in an Art Nouveau surrounding, while Restaurace U Bansethů5 has classic Czech food for good value.

Café Imperial4 and U Sadu2 are still worth a visit. The Zahrádky Letná Beer Garden6 offers relatively expensive drinks with a great view over the old town. If you want to try a typical Czech pastry, the Kolachs at Kolacherie Kampus Hybernská7 are excellent. U Žaludů8 is a hidden gem: A small restaurant just south of the old town that offers excellent value.

The City-Inn Hotel9 is located in the building of the Masarykovo station. Bicycle storage: The hotel staff allowed us to use the ground-level entry hall around the elevator (at our own risk).
